Nasdaq falls 1% in volatile session as Amazon weighs

The Nasdaq Composite Index fell on Wednesday, dropping in a volatile session that saw it swing between steep losses and positive territory. The index COMP, +1.64% sank 1.3%, the latest example of heavy volatility for the tech-heavy market gauge. One of the biggest drags on the Nasdaq was Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, +1.11% which tumbled 6.1% in what was on track to be its biggest one-day percentage decline since Feb. 5, 2016. Apple Inc. AAPL, +0.78% also pressured the Nasdaq, falling 1.2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.07% fell 0.2% while the S&P 500 SPX, +1.38% was off 0.4%. The Nasdaq is set for its fifth decline of the past six sessions, and it is down 4.7% for the month of March, set for its biggest monthly drop since January 2016.
