(RTTNews.com) - French shares were slightly lower on Monday after President Emmanuel Macron's new centrist political party suffered its first electoral setback in a partial Senate election on Sunday, dealing a blow to the popularity of Macro as he pushes through unpopular reforms.
The result of the German election also stoked uncertainty among investors. Chancellor Angela Merkel won a fourth term in office on Sunday, but will have to govern with a far less stable coalition.
The benchmark CAC 40 was down 11 points or 0.21 percent at 5,270 in late opening deals after rising 0.3 percent on Friday.
Airbus Group rallied nearly 2 percent. The aerospace and defense major is in talks to sell a part or all of Premium Aerotec, a subsidiary that makes large plane components, Die Welt newspaper reported.
Car making group Trigano advanced 2.7 percent after it acquired Slovenia'sAdria Mobil.
